Route Overview

The Southwest Desert Circuit is the ultimate national park road trip, connecting five of America's most iconic parks in a compact loop. Red rocks, slot canyons, ancient cliff dwellings, and endless desert skies define this journey.

Starting in Arizona, you'll experience the Grand Canyon's overwhelming scale, Sedona's spiritual red rocks, and the otherworldly Valley of Fire. Utah's Mighty Five parks — Zion, Bryce, Capitol Reef, Arches, and Canyonlands — each offer completely different landscapes and experiences. New Mexico adds White Sands and the unique culture of the Southwest.

This circuit is a van lifer's dream because of the incredible free camping options. BLM land surrounds most of these parks, offering free dispersed camping minutes from park entrances. Moab, Kanab, and Escalante serve as perfect van life bases with access to multiple parks.
