Enchanted Rock is a 425-foot pink granite dome that rises out of the Texas Hill Country like something from another planet. You can summit it in about 15 minutes — it's a steep, rocky scramble, not a technical climb — and the view from the top at sunset is worth the effort. The campground sits at the base, shaded by live oaks, with the dome glowing above you. Fredericksburg, one of the prettiest small towns in Texas, is 15 minutes east for wine tasting, German food, and real coffee. This is a weekend-warrior kind of place: packed on Saturdays, quiet on Tuesdays.
